Assiniboine Park Zoo

Assiniboine Park Zoo is located in Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Established in 1904, it spans 80 acres and is the only zoo in North America that is home to a pair of Asian lions. The two brothers, born in 2010 and arriving from Germany, have become the star attractions of the zoo.

The zoo is open 364 days a year, closed only on Christmas Day, and houses over 2,000 animals from more than 200 species. These are categorized into mammals, reptiles and amphibians, birds, fish/crustaceans/insects. Animals from cold regions around the world are especially popular, including Siberian tigers, snow leopards, polar bears, wild boars, elk, American bison, and many rarely seen species. The zoo offers visitors the opportunity to get up close to animals from around the globe, helping to bridge the connection between humans and wildlife. The zoo also hosts the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, which plays a significant role in polar bear research and conservation. The construction of the Polar Bear Playground is also underway.

The late spring to early autumn period is also the best time to admire the graceful dance of butterflies. A variety of colorful butterflies flutter through the butterfly garden, not only bright in color but also enchanting in their delicate movements.
