Wapusk National Park is located in northeastern Manitoba and was established in 1996 as Canada’s 37th national park. Covering an area of 11 square kilometers, “Wapusk” means “white bear” in the language of the Cree, an Indigenous people of North America, hence it is also known as the Polar Bear National Park.

True to its name, this 11-square-kilometer park is home to the world-famous polar bears, making it one of the largest polar bear habitats on Earth. The polar bears here are incredibly playful and adorable—some cubs follow their mothers on hunts, some enthusiastically wrestle in the snow, others stroll leisurely across the snowy landscape, and some even lie sleeping on the cold snow, full of joy and free from worry, enviable to onlookers. In addition to the lovable polar bears, the park also hosts a large variety of bird species and is a breeding ground for the short-billed dowitcher.

Due to its remote location, visitors can only access Wapusk National Park by helicopter or tundra vehicle. Once inside the park, extra caution is essential, as wildlife can be aggressive.
