The sand originates from sediment deposits from the Assiniboine River delta, which have accumulated over time to form rolling dunes. Among these golden dunes, many rare plants and animals can be found, such as cacti and hognose snakes. In addition to the sand dunes, the park also offers serene lakes, long sandy beaches, and dense spruce forests, providing a variety of outdoor activities for visitors, such as swimming, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and horseback riding.
