Lake Manitoba is located within the Canadian province of Manitoba, approximately 75 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital, Winnipeg. It is the thirteenth largest lake in Canada and also one of the country’s most significant lakes.

Lake Manitoba has an irregular shape and was formed from the ancient Lake Agassiz (Lake Agassiz) during prehistoric times. It stretches 200 kilometers in length and 45 kilometers in width, covering a surface area of 4,624 square kilometers, with a maximum depth of 7 meters and a water volume of 14.1 cubic kilometers. The lake features one large island and several smaller ones scattered across its surface, adding a sense of mystery to its beautiful waters. Lake Manitoba was once a vital route for European fur traders traveling to Hudson Bay, making an outstanding contribution to trade during that period. The southern end of the lake is Portage la Prairie, and the delta marshland located 24 kilometers to the north serves as an important habitat for migratory birds, making it one of Canada’s most renowned birdwatching destinations.

Lake Manitoba has a very high fish yield. Along with two other lakes, its commercial fishing industry generates 30 million US dollars annually for the province of Manitoba, primarily producing carp and goldeye.
