Muyunkum Desert
Attraction Introduction A desert in southern Kazakhstan. Located between the Betpak-Dala steppe and the Karatau and Kyrgyz mountains. It covers an area of approximately 37,000 square kilometers. The northern part has an elevation of 300 meters, rising to 700 meters in the southeast. It features a continental climate with annual precipitation of 150–200 mm. The slopes are home to white saxaul and astragalus, while low-lying areas have tamarisk and wormwood. Grazing is possible in winter.
Features
The landscape is dominated by semi-savanna sandy terrain. Isolated areas feature exposed crescent-shaped dunes.
