Introduction The Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is Brunei's largest royal mosque, officially opened on the current Sultan's birthday in 1994. The 29 resplendent golden domes on the mosque's architecture commemorate the 29 dynasties of sultans who have ruled throughout history. The four 189-foot-high minarets are adorned with blue and white mosaic tiles, the 60,000-square-foot prayer hall can accommodate up to 3,500 worshippers at once, and the mihrab indicating the direction of Mecca is decorated with black marble and gold-plated tiles. The massive chandeliers are made from premium Austrian crystal and 24K gold-plated metal, and even the tops of the eight outdoor pillars are embellished with numerous 24K gold stars.
