Bandar Seri Begawan is located at the mouth of the Limbang River where it meets the South China Sea, in the southwest of Brunei Bay. It is the capital and largest city of Brunei. A modern city, it serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of the nation, and is also home to the world’s largest stilt village settlement, earning it the nickname “Venice of the East.”

The entire city exudes an atmosphere of nobility, elegance, and tranquility. It is divided into two parts: the old town and the new town. The old town, known as the “water village,” is built over the water and features a unique architectural style—waterfront stilt houses, azure seawater, and reddish-brown trees create a distinctive charm. The new town boasts beautiful scenery, clean streets, lush trees, green lawns, and vibrant flowers, all contributing to its modern ambiance. Attractions in the city include the palace of the Sultan of Brunei, considered one of the largest palaces in the world. Other notable sites are the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, built in 1958, and the nearby Brunei Water Village, where visitors can quietly enjoy the beauty of both nature and culture.
