Attraction Introduction

The Musandam Peninsula is separated from mainland Oman by the United Arab Emirates. The easiest way to enter this area is by taking a domestic flight, which takes about an hour. Although it is possible to reach the region by road, the complex visa issues and long travel time make this route less recommended.

To the north of the Musandam Peninsula lies the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic gateway for ships entering the Persian Gulf. It was once a military zone, but apart from a few military outposts, it is now open to tourism. The Musandam Peninsula was formed one to two million years ago by tectonic uplift, and its rocks are mainly limestone, creating spectacular landscapes reminiscent of the fjords in Nordic countries.

Khasab, the largest city on the peninsula and the location of its airport, sits by the harbor where Iranians can be seen selling or bartering various daily necessities. The market also offers food and various goods from neighboring countries. Visitors can take a dhow or small boat to explore the fjord scenery. The seabed here is covered with coral and includes the wrecks of some shipwrecks. Some say this is one of the world-class diving spots, but it's important to note that currents can be very strong in certain areas. It’s best to arrange suitable dive locations through a local tour operator.
