Introduction

Portuguese Village is located south of St. John’s Hill, east of the city center, and is home to descendants of the Portuguese. Most of them have made a living from fishing for generations, but nowadays many are starting to leave the village in search of other careers.   Dining / Accommodation / Shopping

The Portuguese Square by the sea is a street lined with Portuguese-style restaurants, where most of the serving staff are descendants of the Portuguese.   Transportation

To get there, you can take a local city bus from the regional bus station. The route passes by Old Chinatown – the former Governor’s Residence – Jalan Parameswara, and you can get off near Portuguese Village. Once on the bus, just ask fellow passengers about Portuguese Square, and they’ll let you know where to disembark. To return to the city, you can catch a bus on Jalan Putih Pasir.
