Tokorozawa City

Tokorozawa City is a city in southern Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It has the third-largest population in the prefecture, following Saitama City and Kawaguchi City, and is currently designated as a Special City and a Core City of the "Land of Colorful Flowers." Japan’s first airport was built in this city, and the former airport site has since been transformed into an aviation memorial park.

Tokorozawa is a medium-sized city that harmonizes urban and rural features. It is also the birthplace of Japanese aviation, where the first airplane in Japan took flight. The city has an outstanding legacy in aviation and is considered “the place where Japan’s aviation industry was born.” The Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Hall was established in 1933 as a dedicated facility commemorating Japan’s aviation history. The outdoor area surrounding the hall has been developed into the Tokorozawa Aviation Park, which houses various aircraft. Inside the hall, a collection of historically significant airplanes from Japan’s aviation past is displayed. In addition, visitors can explore sites such as Tokorozawa Shrine and Hatonomori Hachiman Shrine. This city also served as the setting for the Studio Ghibli animated film "My Neighbor Totoro."
