Guide Phillip Island is famous for being home to the colony of little penguins at Summerland Beach near Cape Woolamai on the island’s southwestern tip. These penguins are the smallest in the world, standing just 30 centimeters tall. At sunset, you can see them returning to their nests in groups from the sea. Due to their tiny size, watching them waddle along in line is quite amusing. It can get very cold observing them on the coast during winter, so it's best to visit in the southern hemisphere summer (November to March). With binoculars, you can also spot seals in the ocean and those resting on rocks from Cape Woolamai. Phillip Island also features unique rock formations known as “organ pipes” — tall, vertical, rectangular stone pillars that resemble organ pipes — another must-see attraction.

　 Food / Accommodation / Shopping There are many restaurants on the island offering Western, Chinese, and seafood cuisine, giving you plenty of choices. Transportation You can join a one-day tour of Phillip Island from Melbourne, which takes around two hours to reach by car.

　 Ticket / Opening Hours

Penguin Viewing Time 18:30–20:00 (May–September), 19:30–21:30 (October–April). The island is open year-round. Tip: Photography and videography are not allowed in the viewing areas, so do not bring such equipment. Also, it can be very cold on the island, even in summer, so wear warm clothing.
