Introduction Captain Cook's Cottage and Fitzroy Gardens are located on Wellington Parade in East Melbourne. This stone cottage was the former home of the eminent British navigator Captain Cook. Built in England in 1755, in 1934, during the 100th anniversary celebrations of Victoria, it was donated to the people of Melbourne by Sir Russell Grimwade. The cottage was dismantled, shipped to Melbourne, and then reassembled exactly as it was originally.
