Flinders Street Station is located in the heart of Melbourne and is the city’s most iconic railway station as well as the busiest in terms of daily passenger traffic. On an average weekday, over 85,100 commuters pass through, while this number swells to around 110,000 on weekends. The station manages the flow by dispatching approximately 1,500 train services daily.

The current Flinders Street Station was built in 1901. As early as 1854, a small wooden building served as the station on Elizabeth Street, making it the oldest urban railway station in Australia. Designed in the Renaissance architectural style and inspired by St Paul's Cathedral, the station features a striking yellow façade that is both majestic and imposing. Australia’s first steam train departed from Flinders Street Station. Today, it stands as one of Melbourne’s most representative landmarks, embodying more than a century of the city’s past and present. One of the station’s most distinctive features is its iconic front clock, which displays the departure time of the next train. Passengers can easily check if they’re running late just by glancing at it. Locals often use the clock as a popular meeting spot.

From the early morning bustle at 6 AM to the evening rush, the station remains lively and crowded, with street performers often seen singing and playing music beneath the famous clock.
