Yarra River

The Yarra River is located in the eastern part of Victoria and means "the ever-flowing river." It originates from the Yarra Ranges, flows 242 kilometers westward along the Yarra Valley, enters the plains of today’s Greater Melbourne metropolitan area, and finally empties into Hobsons Bay at the northernmost tip of Port Phillip.

The Yarra River is celebrated as the mother river of Melbourne, nurturing residents on both banks and contributing to the development of the economy and agriculture. A range of recreational activities can be enjoyed on the Yarra, including yachting, rowing, water skiing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. The river is home to several fish species, with southern black bream and jellyfish predominant in the lower reaches, and a smaller number of river perch and trout in the upper stretches. Tall skyscrapers line the riverbanks, and at night, the colorful lights glowing from the buildings create a vibrant and enchanting atmosphere along the water.
