King Street Bridge

King Street Bridge is located in Melbourne, Victoria. It was officially opened to traffic on April 12, 1961, and is an overhead welded plate-girder cantilever bridge with a maximum span of 49 meters. The bridge crosses the Yarra River, connecting the Southbank Elevated Road with Crown Casino and the surrounding integrated entertainment precinct developed in the following years.

The original King Street Bridge had eight lanes spanning the Yarra River — four bidirectional lanes in the middle connecting King Street and King Road, with an additional two lanes on each side linking the riverside roads on both banks of the Yarra. In addition, there were two pedestrian walkways, and ramps at the southern end connected the bridge approaches to Wightman Street, transitioning from the elevated road down to ground level. King Street Bridge played a crucial role in facilitating travel for residents on both sides of the river and alleviating traffic congestion.
