The West Gate Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Melbourne, spanning the Yarra River and connecting the city center of Melbourne with its western suburbs. It has become one of the most important bridges in Melbourne.

The West Gate Bridge is 2,582.6 meters long, with a maximum width of 37.3 meters, a main span of 336 meters, and sits 58 meters above the river surface. It is the third longest bridge in Australia and plays a significant role in alleviating traffic pressure on other bridges. The bridge has a total of 10 lanes designated exclusively for vehicles—bicycles and pedestrians are not permitted. However, under special circumstances such as cycling events, bicycles may be allowed. In recent years, the West Gate Bridge has become one of the most well-known suicide sites in Melbourne. Statistics show that at least one person ends their life here every three weeks. To prevent further suicides, authorities have installed safety barriers on the bridge to help rescue those in distress.
