National Sports Museum

The National Sports Museum is located at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Established in 1986, it focuses on telling the history of Australian sports and related culture, housing Australia’s rich and diverse sporting heritage. The museum showcases Australia’s Olympic history, including various photos of athletes, medals won, and clothing worn.

The museum also covers the history and development of various sports such as Australian rules football, horse racing, cricket, basketball, boxing, and netball. In its display cabinets, it preserves and documents Australia’s achievements and records in various competitions, along with over 2,500 precious items, including the iconic full-body swimsuit worn by swimming legend Ian Thorpe. The Australian National Sports Hall of Fame, the Australian Racing Museum, and the Melbourne Cricket Club Museum are also part of the exhibitions on display at the Sports Museum.
