In Quhui Township, Hehsuo County, there is a stream called Quhui Gully. At the mountain pass lies a mysterious valley where streams of meltwater from the Tianshan Mountains trickle through. Centuries-old trees—elm, mulberry, apricot, walnut, and sea buckthorn—stand stubbornly or lushly, their branches and leaves swaying gracefully. Every mid-May, when mulberries ripen, clusters of dark purple and white fruits attract many visitors out for spring outings. For just over ten days, from mid-May to June, thousands of red butterflies flutter through the valley, painting it a fiery red—this is the world-renowned “Red Butterfly Valley.”
