Guide The primitive Populus Euphratica forest is located 10 kilometers east of Nao Mao Lake Town, covering an area of 470,000 mu. The Populus Euphratica, also known as the phoenix tree, is called the “tree of diverse leaves” because a single tree can grow five or six different shapes and sizes of leaves. Along with red willow and saxaul, it is one of the three major natural sand-fixing tree species in Northwest China. From afar, the endless Populus Euphratica forest is breathtaking, while up close, each tree exhibits a unique and stunning posture—there are charming little flying elephants, dancers from the ancient Qiuci kingdom, and baby birds waiting to be fed.
