Guide Huancui Lake is located about 8 kilometers northwest of the Yan Chi Township government, at an elevation of 1,896 meters above sea level, covering an area of approximately 30 square kilometers. The Uyghur people call it “Tuerkule,” which means “tranquil lake.” Description The lake water is odorless and semi-transparent. Due to the presence of 3.78 million tons of salt minerals and mirabilite, the water has a bitter-alkaline taste and is highly saline. The lake has neither inflow nor outflow and is formed by the gathering of underground springs. As you drive past Yan Chi Township, you can see from afar a stretch of azure lake water blending seamlessly with the sky. Walking through knee-deep grass toward the lakeshore, you’ll find grasses swaying and birds singing, with purple, yellow, and blue meadow saffron flowers blooming in the breeze, filling the air with fragrance.

The magic of Huancui Lake lies in how it changes color with the weather. On clear days, the lake surface is as blue as the sea; at sunset, it glows greenish-red under the evening sky. When the wind is about to rise, the lake turns pink, and when rain is approaching, it turns purple. Local herders humorously refer to it as the “weather forecast” lake. While people usually say “check the weather before you go out,” the herders of Yan Chi simply say “check Huancui Lake.”

Yan Chi Town: Yan Chi, known as “Tuerkule” in Uyghur, meaning “tranquil lake,” borders Qianshan Mountain to the west and neighbors Tuhulu and Weizixia townships to the east. It covers an area of 1,980 square kilometers. The township government is located in Yan Chi Village, 35 kilometers east of the county seat.

Before the establishment of the county, this area was one of the six northern districts of Hami. After the county was founded, it became one of the six districts of Yiwu. On June 9, 1984, the Yan Chi Township People’s Government was officially established.

Yan Chi Township is developed along both sides of the Yiwu–Hami Highway, forming an east–west oriented street area.
