Dingxiang Hongfu Temple

Dingxiang Hongfu Temple is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Hongfu Temple is located 23 kilometers northeast of Dingxiang County. The main hall of Hongfu Temple is five bays wide and three bays deep, with a flush-gable roof. The bracket sets on the columns use single-bracketed double downward angling. The intercolumnar brackets feature 45-degree angled arches, giving the structure both sturdiness and aesthetic appeal.

At the center of the lintel above the main hall’s entrance hangs a plaque inscribed with “Vairocana’s True Realm,” written in 1829 (the ninth year of the Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty) by Li Hangzhi from the village. Inside the hall, there are nine principal Buddha statues, along with numerous scattered and suspended sculptural figures. The central large Buddha is Sakyamuni, adorned with a flaming halo. On either side are standing statues of his disciples, Kasyapa and Ananda. Further out are Manjushri and Samantabhadra, along with two attendant bodhisattva statues. On the outer sides are two Vajra guardians.

In the east side hall, the main statue is of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, flanked by four Dragon Kings, then by the Ten Kings of Hell, as well as judges and other celestial clerks.

Within the temple grounds, there is a stone stele dating back to the 10th year of the Tianhui era during the Jin Dynasty (1132), along with six inscribed stelae from various dynasties documenting temple repairs.

Major agricultural products include cabbage, raisins, lotus roots, and potatoes. Local resources consist of mirabilite, gold, magnesium coal, sand, and pyrite.
