Xishe Site (Second Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Location: On the platform on the west bank of the Tong River, 500 meters east of Xishe Village, Hongdao Town, Dingxiang County

The site stretches 500 meters from east to west and 400 meters from north to south, with a cultural layer 0.5–1 meter thick. Remains include semi-subterranean lime-plastered house foundations, pottery kilns, and contemporary tombs. Collected artifacts include fragments of stone tools, bone implements, and pottery. Stone tools consist of axes, spades, balls, rings, knives, etc.; bone tools include bone needles; pottery fragments are mainly gray pottery, often large in size, predominantly three-legged vessels such as li tripods, three-legged jars, ding, jars, dou, and basins. Decorative patterns include cord marks, basket weave patterns, string patterns, and a small number of appliqué ridges. The northern part of the site is the burial area, where both joint and single burials have been found. The eastern part has been severely eroded by river flooding.

Xishe Village: Located at the border between Dingxiang County and Yuanping City, Xishe Village is about 22 kilometers from the county seat and enjoys convenient transportation. The village economy is primarily agricultural, with a population of 1,700, including 1,200 working-age adults—800 men and 400 women. The arable land covers 5,200 mu, including approximately 2,200 mu planted with corn, 500 mu with pear and fruit trees, 1,000 mu with melons and vegetables, and 1,500 mu newly cultivated with small grain varieties such as millet. The per capita income is around 3,000 yuan.
