Shanxi Phoenix Mountain Botanical Garden is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Phoenix Mountain scenic area is located in the heart of the northern Shanxi tourism hub, at the junction of Xinfu District, Dingxiang County, and Yuanping City in the Tangtou Hot Spring Development Zone. Known as Biao Mountain in ancient times, it is a small mountain, not very high, with a high vegetation coverage rate and a small pavilion on top. There is a flower and bird market at the foot of the mountain.

The Shanxi Dingxiang Phoenix Mountain Ecotourism Area is China’s first compound-style tourist destination. Its main areas consist of a 10,000-mu ecological botanical garden and a thousand-year-old ShenTangdu Hot Spring Wellness Park. It integrates hot spring wellness, ecotourism, leisure vacations, and comprehensive amenities including accommodation, dining, shopping, and conference services. It is a National Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site, China’s Best Rural Tourism Destination, one of Shanxi Province’s first Circular Economy Pilot Parks, and a National Three-Star Leisure Agriculture Development Unit.

The Phoenix Mountain scenic area is located in the heart of the northern Shanxi tourism hub, at the junction of Xinfu District, Dingxiang County, and Yuanping City in the Tangtou Hot Spring Development Zone. It borders the Buddhist holy site Mount Wutai to the east, the Luya Mountain Nature Reserve to the west, the Yanmen Pass, Yungang Grottoes, and Yingxian Wooden Pagoda to the north, and the Qiao Family Compound and Pingyao Ancient City to the south. Centrally positioned and adjacent to diverse regions, it is only 8 km from the Hongdao Baicun exit of the Dayun Expressway and 10 km from Wutai Mountain Airport. It takes just 20 minutes by car to reach Xinzhou, 40 minutes to Taiyuan, and 3 hours to directly access Beijing. The transportation network is extensive, convenient, and fast.

The scenic area covers 968 hectares, featuring diverse landforms such as mountains, slopes, valleys, beaches, wetlands, and water bodies that undulate across the landscape. Surrounded by hills and water, the area boasts stunning scenery, simple rural charm, and abundant local produce. It is a naturally-formed eco-wellness haven in the Xinding Basin, well-known in Shanxi as the traditional hometown of minor grains, thin-skinned sweet melons, peaches and plums, and hot springs. The region’s vivid local characteristics and long-standing historical legends make it truly captivating.

The 10,000-mu Ecological Botanical Garden

With hundreds of species and thousands of plants, lush and verdant, where countless trees thrive, it is the largest newly-built botanical gene bank in North China. The garden offers flowers in three seasons, fruits in three seasons, greenery all year round, and scenic beauty throughout the four seasons. The air is filled with a natural freshness, and the negative oxygen ions — known as the “longevity element of the air” — reach 26,400 per cubic centimeter. The ShenTangdu Hot Spring Wellness Park combines a long and unique cultural heritage with cutting-edge hot spring products.
