Shengtian Reservoir

Shengtian Reservoir is located approximately 2,500 meters southeast of Qingshiyi Village in Heshan Town, Dingxiang County. In the early 1960s to 1970s, under the guidance of Chairman Mao Zedong’s call to “mobilize the whole nation to develop water conservancy,” the Revolutionary Committee of the Qingshiyi Village Production Brigade built the reservoir in 1975.

The existing Shengtian Reservoir dam is a stone-and-mud structure. It is 45 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 5 meters high, covering an area of about 450 square meters. The eastern side of the stone arch drainage outlet features the three characters “Sheng Tian Ku” (Shengtian Reservoir) in regular script, while the western side is inscribed in running script with the “Introduction to Shengtian Reservoir and Its Construction.” On both sides of the western part of the drainage outlet are engraved the slogans: “Study theory, grasp the line – build this project in the 1970s; unite our will, vow to control floods – the floodgate determines our fate.” The upper part of the western side of the dam has a cement stone pier inscribed with slogans such as “Learn from Dazhai in Agriculture,” all bearing distinct characteristics of the era. Heshan Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dingxiang County. Originally part of Wutai County, it was incorporated into Dingxiang County in 1947, became part of the Dongfanghong Commune in 1958, then established as the Heshan Commune in 1961, and was officially upgraded to a town in 1984. Located in the northeastern part of the county, it is 20 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 57.1 square kilometers, it has a population of 20,000. The Xinzhou–Heshan Railway and the Xinzhou–Fuping trunk highway pass through the town and have stations here. It administers 11 village committees: Heyicun, He’ercun, Hesancun, Hesicun, Qingnan, Qingbei, Niutai, Nanzuo, Chenjiaying, Fanglan, and Shandi.
