Liu Family Courtyard in Dingxiang

The Liu Family Courtyard is located in Hebian Village No. 4, Hebian Town, Dingxiang County. It was built in the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931) by Liu Jizhong, a local wealthy landlord and uncle-in-law of Yan Xishan, to provide housing. The courtyard follows a single-entry layout, covering an area of approximately 655 square meters. Currently, there is one entrance gate with a plaque inscribed with the two characters “Huái Dé” (meaning “cherishing virtue”) written by Zhu Yinglong. The main house has five rooms, three wing rooms, three southern rooms, and five rooms each on the eastern and western sides—flat-roofed structures with brick-and-wood construction and flush gable roofs. Hebian Village No. 4: Hebian Village No. 4 in Hebian Town, Dingxiang County, is located at the northeastern tip of Dingxiang County, bordering Wutai County. It surrounds the Daguan Mountain Mine, lies adjacent to the Xinzhou–Taiyuan Highway, and connects to Hebian Railway Station. It is a village with convenient transportation and thriving economic development. The village has 2,213 mu of arable land, a population of 2,412, 602 households, and over 785 laborers.
