The Li Chunxia Virtue and Teaching Stele

The Li Chunxia Virtue and Teaching Stele is located about 100 meters southwest of Xizhuangtou Village, Jizhuang Township, Dingxiang County. In 1933, 108 of Li Chunxia’s disciples erected the stele to commemorate their teacher’s achievements. The existing stele is made of sandstone. It stands 1.93 meters tall, 0.85 meters wide, and 0.25 meters thick, featuring a dragon head at the top and a turtle-shaped base. The top is carved with a design of two dragons playing with a pearl. The front of the stele is inscribed with the Chinese characters “中华” (China), while the back is inscribed with “情殷启迪” (Deeply Committed to Enlightenment). The front also bears a vertical inscription reading “清增质生侯铨儒家训导春霞李老夫子德教碑” (Virtue and Teaching Stele for the Late Master Li Chunxia, Confucian Instructor and Scholar of the Qing Dynasty, Selected as a Candidate for Official Rank). The names of the 108 disciples are engraved on both sides. The back of the stele features an inscription in regular script titled “Erecting the Stele for Teacher Li,” comprising 14 lines with 39 characters per line. It was composed by his student Guo Renxian, calligraphed by Zhao Bingnan, and erected in the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933).
