Jushi Mountain Northern Fortress Site

Jushi Mountain Northern Fortress Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Dingxiang County.

Jushi Mountain Northern Fortress is located on Jushi Mountain, about 1,000 meters west of Yaotou Village, Nanwang Township, Dingxiang County. The exact date of its construction is unknown, but the existing main structure dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It faces south with a width of 18 meters from east to west and a length of 21 meters from north to south, covering an area of 378 square meters. The fortress has a square layout, with three stone-built cave dwellings on the front, above which hangs a plaque inscribed “Guanyin Hall,” one stone cave dwelling on each of the eastern and western sides, serving as the Guan Yu Hall and the Thunder God Hall respectively, and a wooden structure Mahavira Hall built atop the front stone cave dwellings. The Mahavira Hall has three bays in width, a front porch, and a single-slope flush-gable roof. In 2004, it underwent renovation through private fundraising. Yaotou Village: Yaotou Village (a village under the jurisdiction of Nanwang Township, Dingxiang County, Shanxi Province) is located in the mountainous southern part of Nanwang Township, approximately 15 kilometers from the county seat. The village has 56 farming households, a population of 89, 25 laborers, and 7 Party members, with 605 mu of arable land and 655 mu of returned farmland afforested. The main sources of economic income in Yaotou Village are agriculture and animal husbandry. The village boasts several notable scenic spots, including the Wang Wei Study Site on Jushi Mountain, the Kuixing Pavilion on Laosongtai, cliff inscriptions, and various natural mountain landscapes, all of which are excellent tourism resources.
