Dongduanjing Site (Second Batch of Provincial Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic to Warring States Period

Address: 100 meters southeast of Dongduanjing Village, Nieying Town, Dai County

The site is situated on the south bank of the Fuyang River, on a large hilly area, measuring 800 meters in length from east to west and 500 meters in width from north to south. It has not been surveyed or excavated. Based on observations of the site’s strata, the first layer is the plow soil layer, 20 centimeters thick; the second layer is a grayish-yellow soil layer, which is the cultural layer, over 1 meter thick. In some sections, the cultural layer is as close as 0.7 centimeters to the surface, with a thickness reaching up to 2.5 meters.

Graves have been discovered in the central part of the site, with burial objects including pottery jars, pottery pots, pottery li tripods, pottery dou stemmed bowls, and pottery bowls. The pottery materials include sandy gray pottery, clay gray pottery, and red pottery. Features found at the site include ash pits and pottery kilns. Four ash pits, each two meters wide and 1.5 meters deep, have been found in the eastern section of the site. Artifacts at the site include a large number of pottery shards and stone tools. The stone tools are mostly polished, such as stone axes, stone shovels, and stone knives. There are also a small number of animal bones and teeth, with decorative patterns mostly consisting of coarse and fine cord marks, blue patterns, appliqué stacked patterns, and triangular ridge patterns.
