Zhou Dai's Former Residence

Zhou Dai's Former Residence is a cultural heritage site protected by Xinzhou City.

Zhou Dai's Former Residence is located at No. 11 Zhoujia Lane, Southeast Street Village, Shangguan Town, Dai County. According to the Dai County Annals, Zhou Dai (1887–1972), courtesy name Ziliang, was a native of Mazhan Village, Dai County.

In the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904), he enrolled in the Taiyuan Army Primary School, and in the 34th year of the Guangxu reign (1908), he was recommended to the Army First Middle School in Qinghe Town, Beijing. In the 3rd year of the Xuantong reign (1911), he returned to Taiyuan to discuss the uprising with Yan Xishan, the commander of the 86th Regiment of the Shanxi New Army. In 1927, he served as the Artillery Commander of Yan Xishan’s forces, in 1928 as Chief of Staff of the Shanxi Army, and in 1949 he surrendered in Beiping. In 1952, he became a specialist at the Ministry of Forestry, in 1956 a member of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and passed away in 1972. The residence was built in 1930. It faces south and covers an area of 3,996 square meters. The layout consists of two courtyards, with a south wing room, a corridor hall, and a main house (the second floor serves as a library) along the central axis. On both sides are gate towers, east and west side rooms, and wing rooms, all built with brick-wood structures and flush gable roofs. A garden is situated to the west of the courtyard, featuring a hexagonal pavilion. In 2007, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Xinzhou Municipal People's Government.
