Zhengkong Temple

Zhengkong Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Dai County.

Zhengkong Temple is located north of Xiagao Ling Village, E Kou Town, Dai County. Its founding date is unknown. According to inscriptions in the main hall, it was renovated in the 16th year of the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty (1503), and repaired in the 31st year of the Qianlong era (1766) and the 7th year of the Jiaqing era (1802) of the Qing Dynasty.

The temple faces south and covers an area of 1,142 square meters. It has a single-courtyard layout, with a front-to-back hall arrangement along the central axis, including a side hall and the Mahavira Hall, flanked by east and west side chambers. The surviving side hall and Mahavira Hall date back to the Ming Dynasty, while the rest of the structures are from the Qing Dynasty. The Mahavira Hall sits on a stone base that is 12.6 meters wide, 11.85 meters deep, and 0.1 meter high. The hall is three bays wide and six rafters deep, featuring a single-eave hanging gable roof, a seven-rafter frame without a corridor, and front eaves supported by brackets. The front eaves overhang at a 5-degree slant, with bracket arms extending out. The hall also features a bracket set with diagonal bracing and elaborate carvings. The interior columns are connected directly to the purlins. In 1984, the People’s Government of Dai County designated it as a county-level cultural heritage site.
