Shang Temple

Shang Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Dai County.

Shang Temple, also known as Zifu Temple, is located south of Panjiazhuang Village in Xingao Township, Dai County. Its founding date is unknown. According to inscriptions within the temple, it was renovated in the 18th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1590), the 35th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1770), the 41st year of the Qianlong era (1776), and the 32nd year of the Guangxu era (1906).

The Offering Hall and the Main Hall are structures from the Ming Dynasty, while the rest are Qing Dynasty buildings. Facing north and covering an area of 1,571 square meters, the temple features a two-courtyard layout. Along the central axis of the main courtyard are a theater stage, the Offering Hall, and the Zifu Hall, flanked by side halls on the east and west. In the southern part of the eastern courtyard, the Jade Emperor Hall and the Guan Yu Hall stand side by side. The Zifu Hall is connected to the Offering Hall, sharing a hipped roof structure and a common platform base. The brick platform is 12.4 meters wide, 13.7 meters deep, and 1.25 meters high. The Zifu Hall has three bays in width and four rafters in depth, featuring a single-eave hanging gable roof and a five-rafter frame without corridors. The front eaves’ column-top brackets are of the bracket-arm style, and the side eaves are slightly upturned. The hall is adorned with colorful paintings and carvings. The main ridge is decorated with a dragon head ornament. There are three steles from the Ming Dynasty and three from the Qing Dynasty renovations.
