Yuhuang Tower of Mazhan

Yuhuang Tower of Mazhan is a cultural relic protection unit of Dai County.

Yuhuang Tower of Mazhan, also known as the North Tower, is located in the north of Mazhan Village, Yangmingbao Town, Dai County. According to an inscription inside the tower, it was built during the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty (1465–1487) and renovated in the 27th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1762). The existing structure dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It faces south and has a total floor area of 350 square meters. The courtyard no longer exists, and along the central axis are the front hall and Yuhuang Tower, with bell and drum towers on both sides. The Yuhuang Tower is a two-story brick-and-wood pavilion-style building that shares a base with the bell and drum towers. The stone platform measures 15.7 meters in width, 17.1 meters in depth, and 5.6 meters in height. The building is three bays wide and six rafters deep, with a single-eave gable-and-hip roof and a seven-rafter front corridor frame. The upper level features railings between the corridor columns, while the lower level has arched windows on the eastern, western, and northern walls. A horizontal plaque above the central front bay bears the inscription “Jingle Yueyuan,” which was erected in the 20th year of the Chenghua reign (1484). Inside the tower are one Ming Dynasty stone pagoda lantern and one Qing Dynasty renovation stele.
