Zaolin Site

The Zaolin Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Dai County.

The Zaolin Site is located about 200 meters east of Zaolin East Village, Zaolin Town, Dai County. It spans approximately 800 meters from east to west and 600 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 480,000 square meters. The site sits on terraces on both banks of the Huyu River, a tributary of the Hutuo River, in an open and flat terrain. The cultural layer is 0.3 to 1 meter thick. Collected artifacts include gray clay pottery and sand-tempered gray pottery shards from the Neolithic Age, with surfaces decorated with cord marks, basketry patterns, and stamped impressions. Identifiable vessel shapes include jars and tripods. Artifacts from the Eastern Zhou period include gray clay pottery and sand-tempered gray pottery shards, with surfaces featuring cord marks or left plain. Identifiable vessel shapes include basins, jars, and tripods. In 1984, the Dai County People’s Government designated it as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit.
