Yanmen Pass Fortress

Yanmen Pass Fortress is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Yanmen Pass Fortress is located in Yanmen Pass Village, Yanmen Pass, Dai County. It has an irregular layout, approximately 200 meters wide from north to south and 500 meters long from east to west. The surviving remnants include about 200 meters of the eastern wall, 250 meters of the western wall, 300 meters of the southern wall, and 50 meters of the northern wall. The base width ranges from 4.5 to 5 meters, the top width from 0.5 to 3 meters, and the remaining height from 0.5 to 6 meters. The walls are constructed from a mixture of earth, stone, and brick, with the outer layer clad in bricks. There are two gates, one on the east and one on the north. The eastern gate has a brick arched roof; the inner side of the arch is 4.4 meters high, and the outer side is about 5.2 meters high. The inner width of the gateway is about 3.4 meters, and the outer width is about 4.5 meters, with a depth of 21 meters. Both the brick cladding and the foundation stones are preserved. The southern gate lintel is inscribed with the characters “Tian Xian” (Heavenly Peril). The northern gate also has a brick arched roof; the inner side of the arch is about 5 meters high, and the outer side is about 4.2 meters high. The gateway is about 3.3 meters wide and about 21 meters deep, with both the brick cladding and foundation stones intact. The gate lintel is inscribed with the characters “Di Li” (Geographical Advantage). Outside the northern gate lies a barbican with a gate opening facing northeast. Part of the eastern wall remains, while the rest of the walls no longer exist. Currently, there is no permanent habitation within the Yanmen Pass fortress area. It is a relic from the Ming Dynasty.
