Guangwu Ancient City Site

Guangwu Ancient City Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shanxi Province.

Guangwu Ancient City Site is located 80 meters west of Gucheng Village, Yangmingbao Town, Dai County. According to the *Dai Prefecture Annals* from the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, it was first built during the Warring States period. In the third year of Emperor Gaozu of Han (204 BC), Guangwu County was established here. During the Xiping era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (516–517), the county seat was moved to Shangguan City (modern-day Dai County), and the original city was subsequently abandoned. The site has a rectangular layout, approximately 2,000 meters from east to west and 2,500 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 5 million square meters. The city walls on all four sides are partially preserved in fragments. The remaining eastern wall stretches 820 meters, the western wall 1,720 meters, the southern wall 260 meters, and the northern wall 1,530 meters. The base width ranges from 3 to 19 meters, the top width from 0.8 to 7 meters, and the remaining height from 1 to 7 meters. The walls were constructed using rammed earth, with layers 0.05 to 0.14 meters thick. It is a relic from the Warring States period to the Northern Wei Dynasty and is one of the thirty-nine fortresses and twelve connected cities within the county.
