Dongzhang Site

The Dongzhang Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Dai County.

The Dongzhang Site is located southeast of Dongzhang Village, Yukou Township, Dai County. It spans approximately 500 meters from east to west and 700 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 350,000 square meters. The site sits on a hilly plateau on the southern bank of the Hutuo River, featuring a terrain that slopes from south to north in a terraced pattern, with gullies on both the eastern and western sides. No cultural layer deposits have been found, but surface collections include gray pottery shards with sand inclusions from the Xia Dynasty, decorated with cord impressions on the surface, identifiable as jar fragments; and gray clay pottery shards from the Han Dynasty, decorated with cord impressions, string patterns, or left plain, identifiable as fragments of bowls with flared rims. Dongzhang Village: Dongzhang Village is located within Dai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, in the eastern part of the county, over 30 kilometers from the county seat, and falls under the jurisdiction of Yukou Township. It borders Duanjing Village to the east, Xuanren Village to the west, and the Hutuo River to the north, with the Gaosu Highway running east-west through the village. The village has a population of 2,000, with the majority of current residents surnamed Wang and Zhang. Other smaller family names include Zhao, Li, Tian, Lin, and Wu. The total population of the township is 17,450. The area features flat terrain, lush forests, abundant grain production, convenient transportation, sufficient water and electricity supplies, and well-developed communication networks.
