Ancient Village of Xiwancun

Xiwancun is located to the west of Banqiao Town Government, just one kilometer away from Qikou, a historic town along the Yellow River. It is world-renowned for its uniquely distinctive residential architecture. The well-preserved residential complex was gradually built over a 300-year span from the late Ming Dynasty to the Republican era by the Chen family, who made their fortune through Yellow River shipping. Covering an area of over 30,000 square meters, the village is nestled against the mountain and faces the water, sheltered from the wind and bathed in sunlight. The buildings rise with the terrain, undulating like waves, creating a strong sense of layering.

Xiwancun features two horizontal and five vertical alleys that evenly connect all the courtyards, making every yard and household interconnected. The buildings and courtyard walls vary in style without adhering to a single form, adapting flexibly to the terrain and arranged in a well-balanced, staggered layout that harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding environment. Facilities for theft prevention, fire safety, drainage, and flood discharge are ingeniously designed. Every brick, stone, and piece of wood here exudes a rich traditional cultural atmosphere, and the various carvings are exquisitely conceived and finely detailed.
