Yunzhu Lake Tourist Resort is located in the southwestern part of Yushe County, 22 kilometers from the county seat and 88 kilometers from Taiyuan City. The lake area spans two towns (townships)—Yunzhu Town and Heyu Township—bordering Yunzhu Town to the east, and adjacent to Wuxiang County to the southwest and Qi County to the northwest. Yunzhu Lake is situated at the foot of Haijin Mountain on the upper reaches of the Yunzhu River, a tributary of the Zhuozhang River in the South Canal system of the Haihe River Basin. It originated as the Haijinshan Reservoir, which commenced construction in 1959 and was completed in 1960. The reservoir sits at an elevation of 1,021 meters, with a dam length of 197 meters, a dam crest width of 7 meters, and a dam crest elevation of 1,031 meters. The total surface area of the reservoir region is 21,700 mu (1,447 hectares), including 21,244 mu (1,416 hectares) of water area and 456 mu (31.4 hectares) of surrounding land. The upstream catchment area controlled by the reservoir is 353 square kilometers, with a verified total storage capacity of 98.45 million cubic meters. It can irrigate 13,800 mu of farmland, and the reservoir is designed to withstand a once-in-a-thousand-years flood event. It functions primarily as a flood control facility, while also serving purposes such as irrigation, aquaculture, and power generation (now discontinued). It is a medium-sized reservoir with multiple uses.

Yunzhu Town: Yunzhu Town is located in the western part of Yushe County, bordering Wuxiang County to the south and Qi County to the west. The town covers a total area of 188 square kilometers, governs 33 administrative villages, and has a population of 21,000. It is listed by the Shanxi Provincial Government as one of the “Top 100 Key Towns for Development.”

Since ancient times, Yunzhu Town has been a key southwest thoroughfare of Yushe, serving as a post station during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its transportation advantages, geographical position, and natural benefits are very prominent.
