Stone Pagoda Statues of Dengyu Village (First Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Heritage)

Address: Dengyu Village, 9 kilometers south of Yushe County

The statues were carved in the eighth year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty (720 AD). It is a single-story pavilion-style structure, 3 meters high, square in plan, with a perimeter of 3.65 meters. The base is octagonal, surrounded by carvings of lotus flowers and other patterns. The middle section of the pagoda body is adorned with stone railings and pillars around the perimeter, with carvings of two dragons playing with a pearl on the pillars. The central parts of the four sides feature over ten Buddha statues of varying sizes, while the upper edge of the top is decorated with floral patterns. Below the main body of the pagoda, above the Buddha pedestal, is inscribed: “In the eighth year of the Kaiyuan era of the Great Tang, in the cyclical year of Gengshen, on the fifteenth day of the third month, corresponding to the day of Wuchen, by the Cloud Cavalry Commandant Geng Li.”
