Yushe Martyrs' Cemetery

The Yushe Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Yushe County Martyrs' Cemetery was first built in 1946 at its original site outside the north gate of the county town, covering an area of 4.5 mu at that time. Its main structures included a hexagonal pavilion and a square. Inside the pavilion stood a hexagonal stone stele on a base with an ornamental top, featuring a rather unique design. The stele engraved the names of over 130 martyrs and served as a landmark revolutionary memorial in the county. In 1989, it was relocated to Nanyangou in Banpo Village, Jicheng Town, covering an area of 126 mu. The first phase of the project included the construction of a seven-bay archway, two hexagonal pavilions, and 12 bluestone steles, with the surfaces of the steles inscribed with the names of nearly 1,300 martyrs from Yushe County who died in battles from the War of Resistance Against Japan up to 1989. The second phase, planned for completion in 2014, was set to include a large sculpture, exhibition halls, a memorial tower, and more.
