Xiangshui Pass

Xiangshui Pass, also known as Guangu Pass, is located near Xiangshuiuan Village in Shezi Township, present-day Lufeng County. The area features towering mountains and deep valleys, with steep terrain and fast-flowing water cascading over layered shoals in the valley, producing a thunderous roar—hence the

name “Xiangshui.” Yang Shen traveled through this place repeatedly during his time in Yunnan and wrote the famous poem “Ode to Orchid Picking”: “The scenic wonders of southern Yunnan are found in the west; foremost among them, the first great pass is truly worthy of praise. Lofty peaks linked with blue-green ranges speak of peril, while bridges span wide gullies like rainbows.” Thereafter, Xiangshui Pass was also

known as the “Foremost Pass in the Western Regions.”
