Category: Tourist Attractions 👁 100 views
The Black Well Confucius Temple is located on the southern side of the middle section of the Qing’an Embankment. It was first built in the 45th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1617), and was reconstructed twice—in the 38th year of the Kangxi reign (1700) and the 20th year of the Qianlong reign (1755) during the Qing Dynasty. In March of the 44th year of the Qianlong reign (1779 AD), it was destroyed by a debris flow from Longgou River but was soon restored. Afterwards, it was repeatedly damaged and repaired by debris flows. In May of the 27th year of the Guangxu reign (1901 AD), a massive debris flow from Longgou River severely damaged the temple, which was again repaired the same year. The beams and bracket sets of the Dacheng Hall largely retained the architectural style and features from the 1755 reconstruction. After this restoration, thanks to the completion of the Qing’an Embankment, the Black Well Confucius Temple was never again destroyed by debris flows and has been preserved to this day.
