Xuanyuan Shrine is located at the foot of Erwu Mountain in Jinping Town, Lanping County, and serves as the main structure of the “Xuanyuan Park.” The shrine was built in 2002, covering an area of approximately 1,500 square meters, and was funded and constructed by the elderly association of Wenxing Community in Jinping Town.

Research by experts indicates that the topography of Yunnan Province, particularly Erwu Mountain in Jinping Town, Lanping County, resembles the ancient divine land described in the classic text Shan Hai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas). It features not only “mountains with eternal snow” but also areas where objects cast no shadow when standing upright and combust upon being thrown. Moreover, the mountain ranges mostly run from north to south. Additionally, the region is home to long-standing place names such as “Guantian,” “Yellow Emperor’s Mouth,” and “Xuanyuan Bridge,” as well as the Neolithic site on Ma’anshan Mountain, leading to the inference that this could be the original birthplace of the Chinese people. Specifically, western Yunnan is believed to be the location of the divine land, Jinping Town in Lanping County is the site of the Xuanyuan kingdom, Erwu Mountain in Jinping is the homeland of the Xuanyuan Altar, and Lion Mountain by the Lancang River in Lanping is said to be the dwelling place of the Queen Mother of the West. This discovery caused a sensation both domestically and internationally, attracting extensive media coverage, and the Publicity Department of the Yunnan Provincial Committee even held a “Shan Hai Jing Exploration Press Conference” in June 1994 to encourage this research. The Xuanyuan Shrine was built against this backdrop, serving not only as a tribute by the people of Lanping to their ancestors but also as an added attraction to the region’s tourism.

Jinping Town: Located in the southeastern part of Lanping County, Jinping Town covers a total area of 408 square kilometers and is the seat of the county government. It administers 12 village committees, 85 natural villages, and 101 villager groups, with a total of 4,827 households and a population of 23,857, including 1,963 non-agricultural residents. The town is home to nine ethnic groups, including the Bai, Pumi, Yi, Han, and Lisu, among which the ethnic minority population totals 32,903, accounting for 96% of the total population.
