Tongdian Town is located in the eastern part of Lanping County, to the west of Laojun Mountain. It features a terrain that is high in the south and low in the north, forming a broad valley basin. Nearby lies the Luoguqing Scenic Area. The landscape is marked by crisscrossing rugged rocks with hues resembling Danxia landforms; the local Pumi people call them “Jiliji,” meaning red cliffs and precipices. There are eighteen ridges—such as the Hundred Beasts Ridge, Reclining Buddha Ridge, Sword Peak Ridge, and Lotus Ridge—and thirty-six peaks, all featuring steep cliffs and strikingly rugged summits. The mountains are densely forested, with thick stands of arrow bamboo. Nine deep and mysterious valleys harbor year-round springs and murmuring streams that wind through the peaks and valleys like nine coiling green dragons.

Rare animals within the reserve, such as Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys, red pandas, leopards, Lady Amherst's pheasants, and snowcocks, roam and inhabit the area. Luoguqing is a world of azaleas, with over sixty varieties growing at different altitudes, including Rhododendron simsii, purple azalea, bright red azalea, strange-eyed azalea, and loquat azalea. The alpine yellow azaleas form vast seas of blooming flowers from March to July each year, showcasing a dazzling array of forms and colors.
