The Memorial to the Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan

The memorial was erected to commemorate the Anti-Japanese Expeditionary Force of that time and is the first official memorial to the Expeditionary Force built after the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The entrance to the Memorial to the Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan is located in a bamboo grove by the roadside. Once inside, you can see from afar the inscription “Memorial to the Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan” atop a high platform, written by Song Xilian, former commander of the 11th Army Group of the Expeditionary Force. In front of the platform, there are segmented steps. As you ascend, the full view of the memorial gradually comes into sight. The steps are lined with bamboo on both sides, surrounded by lush vegetation. Behind the platform lies Er Gong Mountain, where several hills are covered by vast rubber tree forests. After climbing the steps to the high platform, you can see the full structure of the memorial. The memorial has three levels: the base is octagonal and inlaid with four stone tablets. The middle level is a square platform, topped with a four-sided columnar main body, with inscriptions carved on all four sides.
