Fengming Academy

Fengming Academy was the county school of Yuci during the Qing Dynasty, serving as the highest educational institution in the region, covering an area of 27,000 square meters. In the 13th year of the Qianlong reign (1748), Magistrate Qian Zhiqing established a free school here, and by the 31st year of Qianlong (1766), it was named “Fengming Academy.” The academy’s name originates from the Xi Jin Dynasty's Xianning era (275–279), when Xun Miao served as the magistrate of Yuci and achieved remarkable governance, giving rise to the legendary tale of “phoenixes gathering over Yuci.” The academy features a garden-style layout, with picturesque lakes and mountains, pavilions and corridors interspersed throughout, offering an open, airy atmosphere shaded by trees, serene and elegant, with unique scenery—an ideal environment for students to study and pursue learning.
