Jinzhong Museum

Situated at No. 181 Fengming Street in the northern new district of Jinzhong City, Jinzhong Museum boasts a total construction area of 22,000 square meters, a building height of 32.4 meters, and an exhibition hall area of about 9,000 square meters. It is a large, modern, and comprehensive museum. As a hub that combines the collection, research, exhibition, public education, and cultural exchange functions, the museum also integrates Jinzhong's historical and cultural tourism resources along with modern display, promotion, and entertainment features. It serves as a key public cultural facility for the city and represents a significant addition to Shanxi Province’s recent wave of modern museum constructions.

The interior of Jinzhong Museum consists of one basement level and four above-ground floors. The first floor houses a Youth History Classroom and an auditorium; the second floor includes a general introductory hall, temporary exhibition spaces, independent exhibition rooms, and a Hall of Fame; the third floor features historical and cultural displays; and the fourth floor is dedicated to thematic exhibitions and an artistic leisure water courtyard.

With the theme “Splendors Through Time,” the museum organizes its exhibits by combing through Jinzhong’s historical documents, unearthed relics, and local folk customs. Centered around the timeline of historical development, it highlights six major features: “One Village” (Jinzhong’s Prehistoric First Village), “One Treasure” (Jinzhong’s Shang-Zhou Period First Treasure), “One Realm” (The Premier Realm of Buddhist Art), “One Street” (The World’s Foremost Street of Jin Merchants), “One Road” (The First Leg of the Ten-Thousand-Li Tea Trade), and “One Hue” (The Pioneering Hues of Revolutionary Spirit). These elements collectively showcase the long-standing history and profound cultural spirit of Jinzhong.

In addition to its permanent exhibitions, Jinzhong Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and organizes specialized lectures based on actual conditions to enrich the cultural life of the public.

As a preserver, guide, and showcase of Jinzhong culture, the museum adheres to the principle of the “Three Closenesses” (closeness to reality, to life, and to the people), prioritizing social benefits and public needs. It strives to become a true “textbook of Jinzhong’s history and a grand screen of Jinzhong’s splendor,” as well as “a research lab for experts and a grand classroom for the public.” This effort brings the Jinzhong Museum to life and enables it to make positive contributions to the advancement of socialist spiritual civilization and to the socio-economic and cultural development of Jinzhong.
