Niejiayan At the halfway point of the Shanmu River rafting tour, there is a place called Niejiayan. In fact, the first residents here were not the Nie family, but the Yang family. The ancestor of the Yangs was a high-ranking official in the imperial court. Known for his integrity, he never colluded with corrupt bureaucrats. He was highly talented, outspoken, and offended many – then was falsely accused by treacherous officials – and exiled to Guizhou. Once in Guizhou, he traveled to many places looking for a suitable home. He neither wanted to live in a bustling city nor too far from one. Someone suggested he come to the Shanmu River area, a true hidden gem. When he arrived at the river, he found it indeed to be a rare paradise — with lush mountains and clear waters, dense forests, sandy beaches and green oases, flowers everywhere, and close to the Pianqiao Post Station, making transportation convenient. It was the perfect place for him to settle down permanently. So he brought his whole family and moved straight to Shanmu River to make it their new home.
