Libo Yaoshan Ancient Village is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Yaoshan Ancient Village is situated in the stunning world natural heritage site of Libo. It is the last gun-bearing tribe in China, where some regions still preserve the primitive slash-and-burn agricultural practices and rugged, traditional ways of life, earning it the reputation of a “living fossil of ancient society.” The Bai Ku Yao people have also been called “the Indians of the East” by anthropologists. Once known for its poverty, Yaoshan has undergone tremendous change thanks to care and support. Here, ancient ethnic culture and modern civilization coexist, making it a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from far and wide.

Travel Route: From Libo County town, take a tourist minibus to the scenic area. The route includes the Yao Ethnic Culture Exhibition Hall – China’s First Cattle Bronze Drum – Granary Cluster – Weaving Corridor – Primitive Forked Houses – Totem Pole Garden Site – Yao Royal Mansion – Top Spinning Performance Arena – Authentic Yao Song and Dance Performance.

Scenic Area Transportation: Located near the Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, just cross the Bronze Drum Bridge of Xiaoqikong, then walk uphill along the Zhangjiang River valley for a few kilometers, and you’ll reach the well-known Yaoshan Yao Village. You can go on foot.

Special Tips: The primitive Yao village of Dongmeng, as well as the more developed Lapian Village, can be reached via the Bronze Drum Bridge near the east gate of Xiaoqikong Scenic Area. They are only 5 kilometers away from Xiaoqikong and are easily accessible. You can take a bus from Libo to Nandan, or if you’re up for it, hike there. Visiting these ethnic villages mainly offers insights into local customs, traditional dwellings, and long-standing history and culture — you’re sure to make some surprising discoveries. Lapian Village features a performance venue and farmhouse accommodation and dining options, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience.
