Hometown of Deng Enming in Libo

The Hometown of Deng Enming is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The former residence of Deng Enming is located at No. 32 Xiangyang Middle Road, Yuping Town, Libo County, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It was built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Around 1905, his family moved here from their ancestral home in Shuipu. The residence faces northeast and is rectangular in layout. The site includes the main house, tofu workshop, courtyard, exhibition rooms, and tourist service center, covering a total area of approximately 800 square meters.

Deng Enming, male, of the Sui ethnic group, was born in 1901 in Shuipu Village, Yuping Town, Libo County, Guizhou Province. He was a delegate to the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and one of its founding members.

In February 1982, the People's Government of Guizhou Province officially designated the former residence of Deng Enming as one of the first batch of provincial-level key cultural relics protection units.

In early 1990, the People's Government of Libo County raised funds to renovate the former residence of Deng Enming and restored its interior to recreate the scene of that time. Later, an 180-square-meter exhibition room was added in the backyard, featuring a bust of the martyr made of white marble and an exhibition on his life achievements. The site was officially opened to the public on July 1, 1990.

In 1995, it was designated as a Guizhou Provincial Patriotic Education Base.

In 2005, to promote the lofty revolutionary spirit of martyr Deng Enming, who "relentlessly pursued truth and dedicated himself to the revolution," the CPC Libo County Committee and the County People's Government raised 5.6 million yuan to launch the first phase of the Deng Enming Residence Protection and Construction Project. This included building a new 230-square-meter exhibition room in the backyard. Based on scientific research, the restored displays and supplementary exhibitions were adjusted and enriched. A 73-meter-long exhibition titled “The Revolutionary Life and Achievements of Martyr Deng Enming” was rearranged, with significant content dedicated to Deng Enming’s youth.

In October 2006, the renovated and newly exhibited Deng Enming Residence reopened to the public and was also designated as a Guizhou Provincial National Defense Education Base for All Citizens in the same year.

In 2009, the Deng Enming Residence was listed in the second batch of nationally free-to-enter memorial halls by four national ministries and commissions: the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

In April 2011, the Deng Enming Residence was included in the second batch of the National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Areas list by 14 national ministries and commissions, including the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

In 2011, over 800,000 yuan was raised to build a 72-square-meter tourist service center consistent with the architectural style of the Deng Enming Residence adjacent to the site, along with over 30 meters of new exhibition walls.

In November 2012, the Deng Enming Residence was listed as a National Defense Education Base for All Citizens by relevant national ministries and commissions. In December of the same year, it was designated as a Provincial Party History Education Base by the Guizhou Provincial Party History Research Office.
